AMPHITHEATER AT CLARK COUNTY SURPRISES SEVEN LOCAL SCHOOLS WITH DONATION OF MORE THAN $150,000 WORTH OF INSTRUMENTS
Mayor, Superintendent and Clark County Commissioners join students at Discovery Middle School to receive instruments to support music programs
There was music in the air from Portland to Vancouver as a surprise donation of instruments was presented to students at seven area schools including Covington and Orchards thanks to a donation from The Amphitheater at Clark County and the efforts of The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation.
“All of us at The Amphitheater could not think of a better way to give back to the community than by working with The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation to bring much-needed instruments to music programs at schools throughout the Clark County, Vancouver, and Portland areas,” said Braun. “Budget cuts are resulting in schools having to reduce or in some cases eliminate their music programs; it is essential that we support music education and all the benefits it brings to children.”
Working with sponsors such as The Amphitheater at Clark Country, The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation donates both new and refurbished instruments to school and after-school music programs that lack the resources to keep up with equipment loss due to attrition, depreciation and wear over time, and to accommodate students on waiting lists or who have to share instruments. An infusion of instruments enables more students to participate and to experience a quality music education. It is vital that efforts are made to give youngsters every tool available within the small window of time when they can make the most of their education, and experience the benefits inherent in learning to play music.
