Evergreen High School We the People will host Meet the Mayoral Candidate event

Evergreen High School’s (EHS) “We the People” students will host Mayoral candidate Tim Leavitt and Eric Withee, Field Strategist for Mayor Royce Pollard’s reelection campaign, Tuesday, October 27, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the campus commons.  Students will provide an agenda for the event and serve as emcees and moderators for the hour-long question and answer session. The event was organized by the “We the People” team at EHS as part of a civic engagement lesson.  Students from all four high schools within Evergreen Public Schools have been invited to attend including the Heritage High School “We the People” team.

The “We the People” team at EHS has been in existence for nine years with eight teams qualifying for the state competition and a second place win in the 2007-2008 round. Students are tested on a variety of topics, including basics such as political philosophy, foundations of government, the Constitutional Convention and more challenging detailed subjects such as Civil War amendments.
